Mr. Clements, we appreciate all the effort by the entire Clemson faculty, staff and administration and their great plan to allow our students to return to campus in August safely, We believe it is a well though out plan and filled us with confidence until as Ms. Kirk stated above that after testing thousands of students to make sure that everyone was safe you planned a graduation several weeks later with thousands of people from all over the country coming to Clemson. I agree that the graduates deserve to be recognized and celebrated for their great achievement but to do so right in the middle of the first semester after all the effort put forth to make the campus safe feels counterproductive to me and quite franky makes me nervous as this could very well impact the student body and prevent them from returning after Thanksgiving if there is a surge in the number of cases perhaps caused by this large gathering in October. Perhaps this graduation could have been scheduled in December right after the current students have gone home for the holidays and then would have had all students and staff home and social distancing for several weeks to then prevent and spread in October. You could have also instituted another testing requirement after the winter Holiday break to make sure that they are negative before returning to campus. I know that no plan will make everyone happy, and you have a difficult job. Thank you for your time and the opportunity to express our thoughts.
